National Nurses Week 2013 – Quality and Innovation
Nursing can described as a science or maybe even an art. But what nursing is, is a profession in which those who call themselves nurses care deeper and are willing to do as much for their patients than any other professionals in the world. Nurses are on the so called front-lines They come in many forms (RNs, Nurse Practitioners and etc.) and work in many environments. From emergency rooms to hospitals to schools, nurses are everywhere. The theme for this year’s Nurses Week is quality and innovation.
What is National Nurses Week and Where Did it Come From?
National Nurses Week is from May 6 through May 12th. Florence Nightingale, also known as the founder of modern nursing, was born on May 12th and this day is celebrated as a culmination of National Nurses Day and other celebrated days throughout the week. The ANA has supported nursing since 1986 and will continue to be a leader in celebrating everything that nurses mean to all of us. During the week there will be webinars and meetings that will go along with this year’s theme, which is the chosen topic to improve nursing as a profession.
What are Some Ways to Improve Quality and Innovation?
According to the official 2012 NDNQI research in to quality of care in nursing these two findings became apparent.
All hospitals with low registered nurse turnaround where they also rated their work environments highly do have fewer negative and costly outcomes.
Registered nurses that work on units with more nursing care hours per individual patient and lower job turnover rate gave higher ratings to their respective unit’s quality of care.
